Hi !

I was wondering what’s the point of APIs?

Does it enable me to know my DPS? no
Does it enable me to know my output/intput heal? no

So? What’s the point if APIs are only usefull for TP, event details or [insert useless info here]?

Ty for you answer and sry for my english.

Alcarin.9024:

There is no API for TP, API are useless for TP (there is a way to crawl TP but is not part of API).
For the moment API are only useful to know items/recipe information, live map event information (including WvW), and to get item icons or map slice images.
We are all waiting OAuth API implementation that should give more information and let developer gather info about an account and characters.
I don’t think that will be a way to calculate DPS or healing, because API are meant to be used to build external services, not real-time dmg calculation.
In any case, is not already possible to calculate damage and healing through the chat? It cannot be automatic, but it should be possible!

I suggest taking a look at the list of application that use the API. Some of these are actually really good. But even the smaller ones are in no way useless.

Anubis.9346:

@Alcarin The chat doesn’t even diplay the healing lawl.

Anyway ty for you answers

I couldn’t live anymore without my www timer for example

Anubis.9346:

@ Charismatic Harm You post doesn’t answer my question.

Ryan.9387:

Those things aren’t useless.

The idea behind them is that anet can spend minimal time building an api, then can let the community implement ideas much faster and without the development time that anet would have to spend.

ex – wvw timers should be default, as should objective ownership etc.
Anet can make a wvw api and let the community do the work.
